Confronted with the Supreme Court’s 2:1 decision recalling the ban on post-facto environmental clearances, the "new" Lady Justice appears to grope for a blindfold — to avoid watching a miscarriage of justice carried out in her name.
The Court’s ruling suggests that violations can be forgiven because money has already been spent committing them. That is not justice; it is capitulation. The Constitution never intended investment to outweigh injury, or convenience to outrank clean air and public health.
Lady Justice’s scales tilt visibly, and she knows it. She feels Delhi’s smog on her skin, hears the coughs of children, sees citizens pleading at Jantar Mantar — and wonders where her blindfold went! ∎
